The purpose of our Communities of Practice is to create a structure that allows our teams to promote best practice and build common capability in and across the organisation. "A group of people who share a concern or a passion for something they do and learn how to do it better as they interact regularly."

Where our teams (project and PODs) focus on what we do, our communities of practice focus on how we do it. They should encourage learning, building knowledge and improving. Provide a safe space for active experimentation and practice of new knowledge.

Getting value from your time together

  • Social - use it as an opportunity to get to know one another at a social level

  • Learn as a group - arrange presentations and talks, practice some skills with your colleagues, games and workshops, visits and tours

  • Talking, solving problems and building better practices - You could do this as a group, or break out in to smaller groups

  • Marketing - show off what you have been doing to other teams, the company or outside or the company. Write blogs or speak at events. You could even ask people outside of your CoP what they would like to learn

  • Guests - It’s ok to have guests come along to your session but they must be an active member. Ask yourself, will this person bring knowledge to our CoP? If not, arrange another method to come together.
